The
St. Croix Bass Anglers fishing club is a B.A.S.S affiliated club. Our club
members all share the same passion and enthusiasm for the
sport of bass fishing and it shows in our commitment to
conservation, youth programs and the BASS Federation Nation. Mississippi
River - Pool 4 in Late June Produces The SCBA headed to Pepin, WI for their 3rd
stop of the 2008 season. In years past the club has
always fished Pool4 in early Spring but this year we moved it
back in preparation for the upcoming WBFN State Tournament
July 18, 19, 20. With the recent heavy rain fall in the western
WI area the Mississippi River was high but falling the week
leading up to the club tournament. Heavy favorite Mike
"Mr. Mississippi" Mattis from Hudson, WI delivered
again to earn himself the top stop with a nice mixed bag limit
weighing 12.91 lbs. In a close second, also from Hudson,
WI was Jon Loewe with a 12.75 lb limit. David Pechacek
put together a great day and finished in 3rd place.
Rounding out the top six were Wes Haney, Josh Miller and Ken
Snow. For complete results see the tournament results
page. Lots of fish were caught on Sunday and many
anglers did with a number of different techniques.
However, swim jigs seemed to be the lure of choice for most
and both largemouth and smallmouth seemed to be in and around
current. The 2008 Angler of the Year race is starting
to take shape. With 3 tournament complete, it is Wes
Haney of Baldwin, WI currently sitting in first place.
Wes has finished in the top 5 in all of our tournaments this
year and is in an excellent position for the AOY title, great
job Wes! The competition is tough so stay tuned as the
SCBA Anglers fish their way for a chance at the 2008 AOY
title. Next on the schedule for SCBA is the 2008
State Tournament. I would like to wish all anglers
competing in the tournament good luck and have a safe weekend. 3rd
Annual Bass Lake Parent/Child Fishing Contest On
Saturday June 7th, the St. Croix Bass Anglers held their 3rd
Annual Parent/Child fishing contest on Bass Lake, just north
of Hudson, WI. We had another outstanding turnout of
kids and parents despite the threat of bad weather and
rain. Kids, Parents and SCBA club members set out at
8:00 AM to try and catch the biggest fish in each of 4
categories: Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Crappie and
Bluegill. All anglers return to the landing after 2 1/2
hrs of fun and fishing to weigh-in their catch and either released
their fish back into the lake or kept for harvest. We
finished the event with a cookout, awards ceremony and prizes for all participants. All
teams reported good fishing and the results showed. Lots
of fish were brought back to the landing for the weigh-in. The top finishers in each species
category were as follows: Congratulations
to the top finishers and all of the kids that participated and
caught fish, job well done!! We look forward to seeing
all of you again next year. The
St. Croix Bass Anglers would like to thank all of the event
